Wynn Hospital in Utica, N.Y., paused its cardiothoracic surgery program 11 months ago following a state-issued review and immediate jeopardy notice. A CMS survey from March to May 2024 revealed staff concerns about the program’s high mortality rate and potential staffing issues contributing to the decline. On March 21, a staff member acknowledged these issues, and by May 2, a physician cited staffing as a significant concern before the program was suspended on May 3.
