Tin Zar, a Utica resident originally from Myanmar, awoke at 3 a.m. to check on her family after a severe earthquake struck her homeland. After a tense hour, she reached her mother, whose home sustained minor damage but is without electricity. Zar expressed her worry for others facing greater challenges, despite her own concerns. Meanwhile, Pastor Debbie Kelsey of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Utica is also anxious for church members currently in Asia, including a co-pastor at an event on the Thai-Burmese border.
