NYSDEC to Remove Trees Along Leland Avenue in Utica
Workers at the Leland Avenue site, where 60 acres of trees have been cleared, report frequent visits from curiosity seekers. Utica Mayor Mike Galime’s office confirmed that, as of last month, Labella, a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation contractor, began this clearing work at the former city dump in preparation for cleanup efforts set to start in fall 2026. The project aims to properly close the landfill by excavating waste and implementing a cover system to protect the environment.
